UAE Tourist Visa

Dubai / UAE Visa from Ghana — 2026 Application Guide

Ghanaians need a visa to enter the United Arab Emirates — there is no visa-on-arrival. You have three realistic routes: through your airline (Emirates / Etihad), through your hotel, or through a UAE-licensed agent. Here's what each costs in GHS, how long it takes, and which one to pick.

Last verified: November 2025 against Emirates.com, GDRFA Dubai and ICP federal portal. See editorial policy.

The three routes — pick one

1. Emirates / Etihad airline visa (recommended)

Cost: USD 90–120 (30-day single entry) + your flight ticket. Apply after you've booked your flight, through your Emirates or Etihad account.

Time: 3–5 working days.

Best for: straightforward tourist trips, first-time visitors. Approval rate is highest because the airline acts as sponsor.

2. Hotel-sponsored visa

Cost: USD 100–180. Hotel must be 4-star or above and you must have a confirmed paid booking.

Time: 4–7 working days.

Best for: travellers who've already paid for a hotel package. The hotel processes the visa via their licence.

3. UAE-licensed agent / VFS (Accra)

Cost: GHS 1,800–3,500 depending on agent margin.

Time: 5–10 working days.

Best for: applicants without a confirmed flight or hotel yet, or those needing a 60-day or multi-entry visa.

Documents you'll need (all three routes)

  • Passport valid 6+ months from entry, with one full blank page.
  • Coloured passport bio-page scan, 300 DPI minimum.
  • Recent passport photo, white background, 600×600 px, no glasses.
  • Bank statement, last 3 months, stamped by your Ghanaian bank — minimum balance commonly required is USD 3,000 equivalent for a 30-day visa.
  • Return flight booking (not a payment, an actual confirmed PNR).
  • Hotel booking covering every night of the trip.
  • Employment letter on company letterhead with leave dates, or business registration if self-employed.

Why Ghanaian applicants get refused

  1. Insufficient bank balance. Below USD 3,000 = near-automatic refusal for first-time applicants.
  2. Single male applicant, age 22–35, no travel history. Highest-risk profile. Offset with employment letter and good bank statement.
  3. Inconsistent dates between flight booking, hotel and visa form.
  4. Edited or low-quality passport scans. GDRFA rejects anything that looks doctored.
  5. Prior UAE overstay — even by 1 day. You must clear the fine (AED 50/day) before reapplying.

At Dubai International on arrival

Your e-visa is checked at the gate in Accra by Emirates/Etihad — if it's not valid you don't board. On arrival in Dubai, immigration takes biometrics (iris scan + fingerprints) and stamps you in. Bring printed hotel booking and return ticket; officers occasionally ask Ghanaian passengers for proof of funds in cash or card.
