Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2 May 2026.
Ghana Visa Guide ("we", "our", "the Site") respects your privacy. This page explains what limited information we collect, how we use it, the third-party services involved (including Google AdSense), and the rights you hold under the Ghana Data Protection Act 2012 (Act 843), the EU/UK GDPR, and similar laws.
1. Who we are
Ghana Visa Guide is an independent editorial publication based in Accra, Ghana. For privacy enquiries you can contact us at privacy@ghanavisaguide.com or by post at the address listed on our Contact page.
2. Information we collect
We deliberately keep data collection to a minimum.
- Anonymous analytics: page views, device type, browser, country, and how you arrived at the Site (referrer). This is aggregated and cannot be used to identify you.
- Contact form submissions: if you message us, we receive your name, email address, chosen topic, and the contents of your message.
- Cookies and similar technologies: small text files used to remember preferences (such as your cookie consent choice) and, where you have consented, to enable personalised advertising.
We do not require you to register an account to read articles.
3. How we use your information
- To operate, secure, and improve the Site
- To respond to messages submitted via the contact form
- To measure aggregate traffic and reader behaviour
- To display advertisements (see "Advertising and Google AdSense" below)
- To comply with legal obligations
4. Cookies we use
The Site sets the following categories of cookies:
- Strictly necessary: remember your cookie consent choice and basic site preferences. These cannot be disabled.
- Analytics: aggregated, anonymous visitor statistics. Set only when you accept analytics cookies.
- Advertising: set by Google AdSense and similar networks to deliver, measure, and personalise ads. Set only when you accept advertising cookies.
You can change your choice at any time by clicking the "Cookie settings" link in the footer or by clearing cookies in your browser.
5. Advertising and Google AdSense
We display advertisements served by Google AdSense and may, in the future, work with other Google-certified advertising partners.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to the Site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- For visitors in the EU, EEA, UK, and Switzerland, Google operates under a Consent Management Platform (CMP). Where required, our cookie banner collects consent before non-essential cookies are set, in line with Google's EU User Consent Policy.
- You can also opt out of third-party vendor cookies via aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.eu.
6. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)
If you are located in the EU, EEA, or UK, our legal bases are:
- Consent — for analytics and advertising cookies, and for messages you choose to send via the contact form.
- Legitimate interests — for operating the Site securely and maintaining basic, anonymous traffic measurement.
- Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose information by law.
7. Data retention
- Contact form messages: retained for up to 24 months, then deleted.
- Aggregated analytics: retained for up to 26 months.
- Cookie consent records: retained for up to 12 months.
8. Sharing of information
We do not sell your personal data. We share limited information only with the service providers necessary to run the Site (hosting, analytics, advertising) and only where they are bound by appropriate data-protection contracts.
9. International data transfers
Some of our service providers, including Google, are based outside Ghana. Where personal data is transferred internationally, it is protected by Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion ("right to be forgotten")
- Object to or restrict processing
- Withdraw consent at any time
- Lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission of Ghana, the UK ICO, or your local EU supervisory authority
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@ghanavisaguide.com. We respond within 30 days.
11. Children
The Site is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Security
We use HTTPS encryption, reputable hosting providers, and limit access to any data we hold. No method of transmission is 100% secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be announced on the homepage for at least 30 days.
